We drop off and pick up at 2 locations, both in Monmouth Beach. The MB Cultural Center and the MB Bathing Pavilion (south end of parking lot).
Keep it simple. We aren't "a day at the beach" camp. Everything should fit in a backpack. Towel, sunscreen, water, snacks/lunch and not much else. We provide surfboards and leashes and we have short sleeve/short leg wetsuits for sale at great prices. Wetsuits are not necessarily needed but some days can make a nice difference.
ONLY THE BEST WEEKS OF SUMMER!
We arrive before the sun comes up at least 2 days for the experience. The remaining days start around 8ish. You drive down with no traffic, the parking lots are a breeze to navigate, the sun is not scorching our skin, there are no crowds and the winds are typically calm making for way better surf conditions.
We invite parents/family to come watch the kids from a comfortable distance. At first, that might mean coming back for the second half of the first day just to let them settle in with us. Then it's good to go for the rest of the week. This is the new edit for 2024. We used to have a stricter policy but understand we need to flex with the times. That said, we ask that you please do not hover over us while we are doing things with the kids on land. We have always strived to help kids as young as 5 develop their own confidence and independence through our program and that requires the child to truly be independent. Please find them at their designated zone in the water to shoot some videos and/or enjoy yourself relaxing down the beach from our set up. Teen/Adult weeks will be "open sessions" for all to stick around if so desired.
GROM weeks are for our little boys and girls ready to learn how to shred! 6,7 and 8 year olds getting their own setting to learn about the ocean and build confidence. To further our safety, we bring in a handful of our veteran 10-13 year olds, who we call the "Big Buddies" in addition to our usual CITs (coaches in training ages 14+). Between our regular staff and all our awesome helpers, the kids' fears are set at ease and they can focus on the skills they are excited to learn. GROM weeks will sometimes see more swimming than surfing during days that conditions are challenging but we seem to always get the waves we want.
Our Camp has always maintained a policy of allowing for 1 day per week to be called off due to weather. We will cancel camp for lightning or really hard rain with nasty wind. We will not typically cancel camp for chance of showers/light rain. Over the years we have always extended the time on other days if we lose a day in an effort to get as close to the 15 hours as we can. If more than 1 day of camp is cancelled, a make up day and/or camp credit refund will be issued.
